Dr Javier Lopez Lorente received his BSc in Electrical Engineering (2013) and MSc in Sustainable Energy Technologies (2015) from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) in Spain. He completed his PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Queen's University Belfast (UK) in 2021 as part of the SPIRE 2 project (INTERREG VA). Javier has held engineering and research positions in several private and public organisations across Europe, including a traineeship in the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission between 2015-2016. His research interests include solar resource, short-term irradiance variability and grid impact assessment of variable renewable energy sources, particularly PV systems. Javier contributes to develop AssessingSolar.org, an online guide of best practices for solar resource assessment within the International Energy Agency's PV Power Systems Programme Task 16. He is currently a special scientist at the PV Technology Laboratory of FOSS Research Centre for Sustainable Energy of the University of Cyprus.
